The book contains three essays and 100 paintings by five artists of more than 20 Indiana Waterways. What started as a Covid-19 project as something each artist could do on their own, became a traveling exhibition and added essays on waterway conservation.
The exhibition opens October 16, 2022 at the Indiana State Museum with 60 of the 100 artworks. It then moves to the Fort Wayne Museum, with all 100 on display January-March 2023.
The essays include a blue print for how any Midwestern waterway can be restored much as the Eel River has been, what programs are available to the general public to help record data for the EPA through the Indiana Izaak Walton League programs, and a creative non-fiction account of the ethnic and cultural histories of the peoples who lived in the White River basin. This book and exhibition is a historical document that will live forever in any home.
